Behind the MONSOON Collection

Posted by

'Fast Fashion' jewellery retailers pump out mass produced new pieces on assembly lines. Our process at Zefyr is VERY different. Every single piece of our jewellery is handmade by our amazing artisans and each of our designs has a unique back story. Here is the the MONSOON story.

Last week after much excitement and months of preparation we officially launched our MONSOON collection! Our beautiful fans were waiting for the day to come and after one of our buyers asked about the inspiration behind the unique patterns, we decided to tell the back story of how the collection came to life.

In May last year I traveled to Northern Laos, trekking the mountains to spend time with the Hmong Hill-tribe people.

The Hmong women are known for their traditional color-filled geometric embroidery which can be seen in their blankets, clothes, baby-carriers and wall-hangings. Inspired by the detailed patterns in the embroidery I began to visualize my next designs.

The resulting MONSOON collection of rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings is a tribute to those beautiful, welcoming women and their creative work. Each piece also features the Lao symbol for ‘Mountain’ in tribute to the mountainous regions surrounding that glorious area of the world.

Have a look for yourself. Can you see similarity in the pattern?
