Green Living: Green Smoothie

Being a business owner with a chronic illness can be tough. Particularly on the mornings when I wake up and just feel blah. 

You know the feeling. It's like heavy weights have been tied on to all your limbs and torso during the night. Everything feels. Just. So. Heavy.

Fatigue is definitely something I struggle with on many days - as most thyroid disease sufferers will attest to!

Something that I find helps to get me going in the morning is my green smoothie shake. "Green smoothie!" I hear you cry out in horror. But bear with me here. It's actually quite delicious if you make it right.

Here is my favourite green smoothie concoction. Try to use organic ingredients where possible. Not only are they good for the environment but they're good for you too! Yum.


TANYA'S TOTALLY-NOT-DISGUSTING GREEN SMOOTHIE RECIPE

1 whole banana - a lot of people advocate using just 1/2 a banana but I like to live dangerously and use the whole thing

A handful of baby spinach - or as much as you can bear, really

A tablespoon nut butter

2 teaspoons flax or hemp seeds for those omega 3s

3/4 cup coconut or almond milk

A teaspoon of coconut kefir if you can get it

A healthy squeeze of fresh lemon

A pinch of cinnamon 

A bit of love sprinkled in

Chuck the mix into your blender. Pop the lid on and whiz away. 

*All measurements are approximations. I usually just chuck everything in by feel. 


                              

Voila! Green smoothie moustaches for everyone. The perfect nutrient dense way to start the day.
