Last night the Zefyr team went along to a talk at the amazing Powerhouse museum as part of Sydney Design Week. It was a panel 'in conversation' with some of Australia's most vibrant and visionary fashion designers - Jenny Kee, Linda Jackson and Romance Was Born's Luke Sales and Anna Plunkett.
Our big takeaway from the talk was how remarkably low key, modest and unassuming all four panelists were. These people are considered the top design talent in the whole country, yet they sat there warm, respectful of eachother, appreciative and full of humility. We are now even bigger fans.
The shared design aesthetic of all four designers - bright, theatrical, romantic, bold - and affection for the Australian landscape was what initially brought them together. Jenny and Linda have been 'soul sisters' since the 70s. Jenny has been collaborating with Romance was Born since 2012 and their 2015 Kooee collection (which Jenny was wearing on the night) featured the iconic art work of Linda Jackson. Many years and many collaborations later, they call themselves a foursome and have big plans to work together on many future projects.
We absolutely loved that they were all wearing each others designs up on stage. Jenny looked especially fabulous in the stunning black and white jacket from this season's Romance Was Born and Linda Jackson collaboration. Very fitting.
It was a great night and we dream of working with any of the four in the future. It's on our vision board.
