What We Do

what-we-do-sidebar-2.jpg

At Zefyr, beauty is at the centre of everything we do. We don't think you need to create ugliness in order to make beautiful jewellery, and we want you to feel good on the inside while looking fabulous on the outside.

So to the mainstream jewellery industry we say: “Get those big, dirty boots off, slip into a dainty green ballet flat and minimise that eco-footprint!”

Read on to learn how we avoid harsh chemicals, say no to damaging mining practices, and manage to craft beautiful jewellery using only thoughtfulness and love (well, almost only)....

Reuse, recycling and conscious creativity

Brass is one of the most recyclable metals available, and it is upcycled in every Zefyr piece.

We breathe new life into this hardworking metal to create fresh and timeless pieces.

Our glam gemstones are created from bespoke, lead-reduced crystal, which means your conscience will be as clear as our brilliant jewels.

Our jewellery boxes and packaging are made from 100% recycled card and printed with biodegradable vegetable inks. Our jewellery pouches are 100% organic cotton.

Oh, and everything that’s recyclable in our studio gets recycled!

Chemicals and you

All the metal in our jewellery is 100% nickel, lead, and cadmium free.

Nickel is a carcinogen, which can cause hypersensitivity in some people, as well as untold problems for the workers handling this material on a daily basis.

Instead of nasty chemicals, we use eco friendly non-toxic alternatives to the corrosive chemicals traditionally used.

For example, we use mild salts, biodegradable soaps and citric acid, which is found in fruit.

Zefyr products are kind to the earth, kind to your body and kind to everyone involved in creating our glorious jewellery.

TESTIMONIAL:

“My ears have become more sensitive in recent years, which is a shame as I love wearing earrings. However I can wear my Zefyr earrings all day long and my ears don’t get sore”.

Eleanor, customer.

The extra mile

We're a member of The Carbon Reduction Institute, and we're aiming to be totally carbon neutral by the end of 2014.

And it's only a wee little thing, but each morning Tanya hops on the bus instead of taking the car, reducing her carbon footprint just by letting someone else do the driving!

And when the stars are properly aligned, you can even see the Zefyr team cycling to work, pedalling as fast as their little legs will carry them.

Look gorgeous, tread lightly, feel fabulous....
